"Germany has changed my lifestyle completely"

The students met Balvinder Kaur on a train.
Balvinder Kaur has lived in Germany, Augsburg, since 2006. She moved from Hosiyarpur, Punjab, to Germany, Augsburg, due to her marriage. Her husband has lived in Germany for 23 years. Her husband works at the pizza shop nearby. She is mothering four children born out of her sister – Kangan Preet (16), Sunny (14), Paramjeet (12), and Gurpreet (9). The students met her on a train.

Her first impression about Germany was quiet a good one. She felt really nice and comfortable when she came to Germany. She felt the protection system in Germany was comparatively better than India.
Her favorite place in Germany is Berlin. She enjoys cooking Indian food. She spends about 2-3 hours cooking. She finds a lot of difference in the festivals, the seasons, and the weather. She picked up Deutsch language when in Germany and can speak fluently.

Germany has changed her lifestyle completely. She misses the open houses in Punjab. And the most exciting thing was sleeping under the sky filled with stars at night. The dressing sense in Germany is completely opposite from that in India she added.

She had a sad story about her sister who died at an early age due to a severe heart attack. She looks after her sister’s children very well that they never felt the absence of their mother. She cared for them as if they were born out of her heart.

She strongly told that the education system in Germany is simple and easy and was of a higher standard than Punjab.

She has her in-laws family in Germany whom she visits once in 2-3 months on occasions or festival. This was because of her busy schedule starting form 7:00 am in the morning to 1:30 pm at night. She can drive the car very comfortably in and around Germany. She loves moving around with the kids during the leisure time and holidays.

She likes watching Bollywood movies and Indian Television serials. Her favorite actor is Shahid Kapoor. She loves Indian dishes like “Makki-di-roti” and “Sarson-ka-saag”. She visits India along with her children once in 2 years. Her children are not quiet comfortable in India when compared to Germany. She said that during the “Karvachauth”, the moon comes out very late which she doesn’t like.
